Kale Chips Are Ka Pai

To celebrate our last Enviro lesson this term, we've been harvesting our kale and making kale chips.

The kale leaves were wet, soft and bright green when we picked them. After they were put in the oven we noticed they changed to being dry, crisp and dark green. They tasted yum!

We put the leftover stalks in the worm bin, so the worms can make more fertiliser for our edible gardens and we'll have more veges to eat. That's being sustainable! I wonder what we will plant next ....

Maddie & Alistair are cool dudes for bringing nude foods!

Well done Alistair and Maddie from Room 22 - they bought naked lunches. No wraps and wrappers means less pollution for our environment. Can you bring nude food too dude?

ANGUS - THIS WEEK’S SUNNYHILLS ENVIRO HERO

ANGUS - THIS WEEK’S SUNNYHILLS ENVIRO HERO

Angus explains, "My dad and i walked from our home down the Rotary Walkway. We picked up a whole bag of rubbish including dead lighters, plastic bottles, plastic bags and nappies. We did it cause we know the estuary goes straight to the sea. We know it's already not the cleanest place and we don't want anymore plastic to go there because sea life can swallow it and it'll get stuck in their throat and they can die."

What will you do this week to help our environment?

Cassie & Eliza - Kaitiaki o te Moana 🐳❤🌏

Cassie from Room tekau ma iwa and Eliza from Room rua tekau ma rua are gaurdians of the sea! Cassie's family have swapped from plastic straws to paper. Tino pai! Lisa's family use metal straws. Awesome! Will you say no to plastic straws too and help save our sea animals?

Also a big thank you to Grangers in Half moon Bay for choosing to go straw free. We hope you lead the way for other local businesses to follow.

Aporo Pai 🍎❤

Room 9 trimmed the kumara runners, so our plant will produce nui kumara.

Next we harvested our first aporo from the orchard. Some had worms, but the ones that didn't tasted tino pai!

Do you know how to stop the pesky bugs getting our fruit? Comment below:
